Karachi: A strong westerly wind system will continue to affect the country from today to February 22, under which there is a possibility of rain in many areas and snowfall in the mountains, predicted the Meteorological Department,

According to the meteorological analyst, this system can also affect 70 to 80 percent of the northern areas of Pakistan including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu, and Kashmir. The system is likely to cause snowfall in the mountains and moderate to heavy rainfall in many areas.

The meteorological analyst says that there is currently no possibility of rain in Sindh due to this system. However, good rains are likely to occur in Balochistan under the influence of this system. Snowfall in the mountains is also likely in Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, and Khuzdar.

According to the meteorological analyst, the westerly wind system can bring light to moderate rain in Gwadar, Pasni, Turbat, and Odmara, and hail is also likely in some places in Balochistan.

A weather analyst says that good rain is likely in many areas of Punjab from February 19 to 21. Two to three spells of rain are likely in southern and central Punjab, while hailstorms may also occur in a few places.

According to the weather analyst, two to three spells of rain may also occur in Islamabad and its surrounding areas, while Karachi will get relief from dry and dusty weather due to westerly winds. After the departure of this system, a cold wave may affect the northern areas.

Meteorological analysis has predicted that under this system, drizzle or light rain may also occur in Sukkur, Larkana, and Jacobabad. However, there is no possibility of rain in Karachi either. However, the weather in Karachi may be partly cloudy today.

Due to westerly winds in Karachi, the humidity in the air is likely to remain high, while the weather may cool down a bit in the last week of February.
