Meta to lay world's longest submarine cable
50,000-km-long undersea cable line will be laid under Project Waterworth

California: Meta has announced plans to lay the world’s longest undersea internet cable, which aims to connect the United States, India, South Africa, Brazil, and other regions.
The social media company said that a 50,000-kilometer-long undersea cable line will be laid under Project Waterworth.
That is, this length is longer than the entire circumference of the Earth.
According to Meta, this cable line is based on a 24-fiber pair system to provide users with the best speed while also supporting artificial intelligence (AI) projects.
The company said in a blog post that Project Waterworth will connect the United States, India, Brazil, South Africa, and other key regions.
According to the blog, this project will promote excellent economic cooperation and open up opportunities for the spread of technologies in these regions.
Meta added: “We have completed more than 20 submarine cable line projects with multiple partners over the past decade”.
It is pertinent to note that currently more than 95 percent of the world's internet traffic operates through submarine cables, which is why the risk of them becoming a target due to geographical conflicts or tensions increases.
The blog post further stated that Waterworth will increase the pace of economic development of countries and promote the digital economy.
