‘We want to see ourselves as country that can bridge gap, not increase division’

(Web Desk): Pakistan has the potential to act as a bridge between the United States and China, said Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), in an interview with German television at the Munich Security Conference.
Bilawal said that Pakistan wants to play a role in reducing the growing tension between the US and China. “We want to see ourselves as a country that can bridge the gap, not increase the division,” he added.
He mentioned that Pakistan has a long history of building diplomatic ties between nations, and while some countries benefit from the rivalry between the US and China, Pakistan has remained neutral.
When asked about US President Donald Trump, Bilawal called him a “dealmaker” and believed that Pakistan could work effectively with him.
On Pakistan's internal politics, Bilawal said the youth's disillusionment with politics is due to former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He claimed that while many generations struggled for democracy, Khan damaged the political system for his own personal gain.
Regarding security issues in Pakistan, Bilawal stressed the need for a national consensus to fight terrorism, especially after the new government in Kabul. He pointed out that the situation has led to an increase in terrorist attacks in Pakistan.
Bilawal called for political stability and better policymaking to tackle the growing challenges facing the country. He also reaffirmed that all institutions must operate within their constitutional limits.
