(Web Desk): The latest Democracy Index from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) shows that Pakistan's democracy ranking dropped significantly, from 3.25 in 2023 to 2.84 in 2024, due to political unrest and election-related issues.
The EIU Democracy Index also revealed that global democracy is in a worse state than ever before, with countries struggling with democratic governance. Norway topped the list for the 16th year in a row, scoring 9.81 points. It was followed by New Zealand and Sweden. On the other end of the scale, Afghanistan remained the lowest-ranked country since 2021, with a score of just 0.25. Bangladesh saw the biggest drop in the rankings, falling 25 places.
