Measles worsens again in Karachi, children admitted to hospitals

Karachi: Measles has surged again in Karachi, dozens of children have been admitted to government hospitals, and the isolation ward of Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital NIPA has been filled with patients.

According to the details, measles cases in Karachi are increasing rapidly again, and dozens of children infected with measles have been admitted to government hospitals.

The isolation ward of Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital has been filled with patients. 17 measles patients are under treatment in the hospital, out of which eight children are under the age of one year.

The situation is also deteriorating rapidly in the National Institute of Child Health and more than six children are reaching the emergency room every day infected with measles and 8 to 10 measles cases are being reported every day.

Civil Hospital Karachi is also reporting 4 to 6 new cases of measles daily. 12 patients are under treatment at the Civil Hospital, and 6 measles patients are admitted at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. So far this year, 12 children with measles have been reported at Qatar Hospital Orangi Town.

It is pertinent to note that measles is an infectious disease that mostly attacks children. Children who are not vaccinated are more susceptible to it. Colds, coughs, and rashes are the initial symptoms of measles. Measles severely affects the immune system and can be fatal if severe.
