Four killed, three injured in separate terrorist attacks on police stations in KP
These attacks are part of rising militancy in KP and Balochistan, bordering Taliban-controlled Afghanistan

Peshawar: At least four people, including three police officers, were killed, and three others were injured in a series of gun attacks on police stations, checkpoints, and a gas installation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday morning. The attacks are part of a growing wave of terrorism across the country.
According to police reports, the violence started when armed men attacked the Pajjagi police post in Peshawar. One police officer was martyred in the attack, but police returned fire, forcing the attackers to flee. A search operation was launched to find the assailants.
In Karak, militants carried out coordinated attacks on two police stations, Takht-e-Nasrati and Thana Khurram, using heavy weapons. District Police Officer (DPO) Shehbaz Ilahi confirmed that the police successfully repelled both attacks. However, one officer was martyred in the first attack. Police returned fire, pushing the attackers to retreat.
Meanwhile, in Bannu, militants attempted to attack the Spinah Tangi police checkpoint, but security personnel responded with gunfire, forcing the attackers to flee. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. In Tank, militants attacked the Nasran police checkpoint, injuring two police officers.
In a separate incident, a retired police officer was killed in a gun attack in South Waziristan’s Dabkot area. Additionally, militants targeted a Sui gas installation in Karak, where one security guard was killed, and another was injured. The attackers managed to escape after the assault.
DPO Ilahi later confirmed that the firing at both police stations and the gas facility had stopped. Police had previously reported attacks on six police stations and checkpoints in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Tank on Saturday morning. However, no casualties were reported in those attacks as the police, with help from local people, were able to repel the militants.
These attacks are part of a larger increase in militant activity in Pakistan, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, provinces that border Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.
Data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) shows a 42% rise in terror attacks in January 2025 compared to December 2024, highlighting the growing security concerns in the region.
