Sugar may hit Rs200/kg if prices not controlled

(Web Desk): Despite all claims, sugar prices continue to rise across the country.
A report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics reveals that the average price of sugar nationwide has increased by Rs3.38 per kilogram, reaching Rs175.19 per kg.
The maximum price of sugar has now reached Rs185 per kg, with Peshawar, under the administration of the PTI government, recording the highest sugar prices in the country. Residents of Peshawar are being forced to buy the most expensive sugar in Pakistan.
According to the Federal Bureau of Statistics, sugar prices in Peshawar increased by up to Rs5 per kg in just the past week.
It is noteworthy that the current average price of sugar is Rs175.19 per kg, compared to Rs171.81 per kg last week and Rs143.75 per kg a year ago.
Just a day earlier, Chairman of the Wholesale Grocers Association, Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, had warned that if prices are not brought under control, sugar could reach Rs200 per kg.
He stated that the ex-mill price of sugar is Rs168 per kg, while the federal government had fixed the retail price at Rs164 per kg. However, he noted that these official prices are not being implemented, and urged the government to take immediate steps to protect the public from rising inflation.
