Boost for trade: Pakistan Railways introduces new high-speed freight wagons
Each wagon has a capacity to carry 60 tons of cargo

(Web Desk): Pakistan Railways has taken a significant step to facilitate the business community and modernize the country’s freight transport system by adding 30 new high-speed, high-capacity freight wagons to its network.
Speaking at a ceremony held on Friday at the Lahore Cantt Railway Station, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Railways, Aamir Ali Baloch, stated that these wagons have been manufactured in response to the demands of the business community and are in line with international standards. He said that each wagon has a capacity to carry 60 tons of cargo, marking a revolutionary advancement in freight operations.
The event was also attended by Project Director Ishaq Butt and other senior officials from Pakistan Railways.
The CEO further added that the railway’s target is to induct a total of 850 freight wagons, out of which 250 have already been integrated into the system, while the remaining wagons will be added by December 31 of this year.
He noted that the new wagons have been entirely manufactured in Pakistan, which is a positive development for the local industry. He also mentioned that the freight service rates of Pakistan Railways have been kept lower than those of road transport to provide traders with an efficient and cost-effective transportation solution.
Aamir Ali Baloch indicated that as the capacity of railway tracks is enhanced, more modern freight trains will be introduced to further strengthen and improve the cargo transport system in the country.
