Minister says government remains committed to providing economic relief to the public

Islamabad: Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has confirmed that the federal government will increase the defence budget in the upcoming fiscal year, citing the country’s security needs.
He also assured that the government remains committed to providing economic relief to the public.
Speaking to a delegation of engineers led by Institution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) Secretary General, Engineer Ameer Zameer, Iqbal stressed that there was no pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in finalising the federal budget. He clarified that the delay in presenting the budget was due to the prime minister’s foreign engagements and the Eid holidays.
Iqbal highlighted the government's focus on national water security, especially in response to India's "water aggression." He said water-related infrastructure projects, including the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, are being prioritised and will receive dedicated funding. He added that timely completion of these projects is essential to counter potential threats and ensure sustainable water management.
On the economic front, he said the IMF is satisfied with Pakistan’s economic policies, and the government will not implement any measure that undermines national unity.
Touching on political matters, Iqbal stated that the country remains united following recent military success against India. He criticised PTI founder Imran Khan for not positively acknowledging the leadership of Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who has been praised for his exemplary role during the crisis.
Iqbal concluded by reaffirming that national cohesion and public welfare remain central to the government’s policies.
