450 prisoners in jails across Punjab will benefit from this special concession

Lahore: Before Eid-ul-Adha, the Punjab government has come up with good news for prisoners. Following the instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister, the Home Secretary has issued a notification for a special remission of 90 days in the sentences of prisoners.
According to the Punjab Home Department, 450 prisoners imprisoned in jails across Punjab will benefit from this special concession, while 270 prisoners will be released who will celebrate Eid with their families.
According to the order, the reduction in sentence has been made under Rule 216 of the Pakistan Prison Rules 1978. However, this concession was not given to prisoners convicted in specific types of cases.
It is pertinent to note that prisoners involved in terrorism, sectarianism, rebellion, or anti-state activities will not benefit from this concession.
Similarly, prisoners convicted in cases of espionage, murder, adultery, drug trafficking, robbery, kidnapping, financial embezzlement, and damage to the national treasury will also not benefit.
According to officials, this move has been taken to ensure the well-being of prisoners and to facilitate their meeting with their families on the occasion of Eid.
