Magnitude 2.6 quake again shakes Karachi

Karachi: Earthquake tremors have been felt in different areas of Karachi once again on Monday.

According to the Seismological Center, the magnitude of the earthquake was 2.6, and its epicenter was 40 kilometers underground. The earthquake caused panic among the people, and many people came out of their homes.

It is pertinent to note that the total number of earthquake tremors that started in Karachi since June 1 has now reached 40.

Amir Haider, head of the Tsunami Warning Cell Karachi, had recently admitted that earthquakes occurred in Malir and adjacent settlements every year except 2011 and 2012. In 2009, about 15 earthquakes occurred in three months.

He had said that the frequency of recent earthquakes is gradually decreasing. In the past, earthquakes could not be recorded in time due to a lack of equipment. The highest earthquake of magnitude 4.6 was recorded in Karachi on September 14, 2003.
