37,711 parents refused vaccination during May anti-polio campaign


Karachi: The number of refusal cases started increasing after thousands of parents continuously refused to vaccinate their children against polio in Karachi.
According to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), 37,711 parents refused vaccination during the May anti-polio campaign, while 37,360 parents refused to vaccinate against polio in April.
ECO says that in May, the highest number of parents refused 9,433 in the East District, 7,141 in the Central District, 3,145 in the South District, 2,922 in the West District, 17,011 in Kemari, 3,453 in Korangi, and 4,606 in Malir.
The rate of refusal of the anti-polio campaign is still a constant challenge, and the continued support of parents is needed to eradicate polio.
Special attention is being paid to the union councils at risk of polio, while the major reasons for refusal of the vaccine are misunderstandings and a lack of awareness.
