Day marks year’s longest day, shortest night

Karachi: Today, June 21, will be the longest day and shortest night of the current year 2025.

According to astronomer Professor Dr Muhammad Javed Iqbal, the day will be 13 hours and 41 minutes long while the night will be 10 hours and 19 minutes long. After July 1, the duration of the day will start to gradually decrease, and on September 22, the duration of the day and night becomes almost equal.

By the way, in the summer season, the days become long and the nights become short, but today, June 21, is the longest day of the year 2025 in the northern hemisphere.

It is pertinent to note that our Earth revolves around the sun, so on the occasion of Ras al-Jadi, the sun is tilted towards the South Pole and away from the northern hemisphere, so winter begins here.

Due to this, the duration of the day decreases, while in summer it is reversed. In the regions of the northern hemisphere, the sunrise time will remain the same for the next three days, but the sunset time will change.

Meanwhile, the weather in Karachi has become pleasant after light drizzle in the early morning, while the weather in the city will remain cloudy, but drizzle is also possible during the day.

On the other hand, clouds have also covered Lahore, the intensity of the heat has decreased due to the wind, and the heat has broken due to rain late at night in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and the surrounding areas.

The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Peshawar, Swabi, and Mardan in the next 24 hours. There is also a possibility of rain with thunder in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
