Biden speaks with Chinese counterpart for first time since assuming charge as President
Washington: United States (US) President Joe Biden has spoken to his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping for the first time since assuming office.
According to details, the two leaders discussed range of issues including the escalating tensions between US and China.
Biden talked about economic and military issues, and discussed potential areas of where both countries can extend cooperation. On the other hand, Chinese President discussed range of issues related to trade and technology.
US-China relation hit their lowest point in decades during the administration of former president Donald Trump with the world's two largest economies have been locked in a bitter trade battle.
Both countries have US imposed tariffs on each other’s goods and products worth billions of dollars.
Trump had also accused Beijing of unfair trading practices and intellectual property theft, while China has a perception that US is trying to stop its rise as a global economic power.
Now, Biden led government is planning a sweeping review of Trump administration's posture toward China.
