Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leaked audio sparks 6-month jail sentence

Dhaka: Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced Sheikh Hasina Wajid to six months in prison for contempt of court.
According to a Bangladeshi newspaper, an alleged audio leak of the former Prime Minister surfaced in which Sheikh Hasina told a local leader, "There are 227 cases against me; now I have a license to kill 227 people."
According to the report, the court deemed this statement as interference in judicial proceedings and contempt of court, and subsequently sentenced her to six months in prison.
Bangladeshi media also reported that the court sentenced Shakil Akand, a leader of the Awami League’s student wing, Chhatra League, to two months in prison.
It is worth noting that the head of the Awami League and former Bangladeshi Prime Minister fled to India after last year’s student protest movement in August.
