A documents reveals over past year, government's debt has increased by Rs8.312tn


Islamabad: The federal government's debt has reached a record high of Rs76.045 trillion, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for the period up to May 2025.
The SBP has released detailed figures showing that the domestic debt of the federal government stands at Rs53.460tn, while the external debt was recorded at Rs22.585tn as of May 2025.
The documents reveal that over the past year, the federal government's debt has increased by Rs8.312tn.
In the first 11 months of the fiscal year 2024–25, the debt rose by Rs7.131tn, while in the month of May 2025 alone, the central government's debt increased by Rs1.109tn.
From June 2024 to May 2025, the federal government's total debt rose by Rs8.312tn, reaching Rs76.045tn by the end of May 2025.
As of April 2025, the federal government’s debt was Rs74.936tn. At the end of June 2024, it stood at Rs68.914tn, and by May 2024, it was Rs67.733tn.
