As many as 1,601 borrowers across the country have not repaid even a single rupee of their loans

Islamabad: Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) has failed to recover Rs9 billion in loans from borrowers, it was revealed during a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), chaired by Junaid Akbar.
Committee members expressed surprise upon learning that 1,601 borrowers across the country have not repaid even a single rupee of their loans.
Audit officials informed the committee that only 16% of the outstanding amount has been recovered from borrowers in Quetta, Karachi, and Lahore. Meanwhile, the number of defaulters across the country continues to rise.
Committee member Khawaja Shiraz questioned, “The banking sector is currently one of the most profitable in the country—so why is the Agricultural Development Bank consistently in decline?”
The committee chairman directed that the recovered amount be verified through audit and asked for an update on the recovery of the remaining dues.
