NDMA warns of more downpours

(Web Desk): At least 98 people have lost their lives and 185 others have sustained injuries in rain-related incidents across Pakistan since June 26, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
In its daily situation report released Friday, the NDMA revealed that eight deaths and 27 injuries were reported in the past 24 hours alone, with most incidents recorded in Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan.
The majority of casualties resulted from house collapses, lightning strikes, and electrocution. Punjab remains the worst-affected province with 37 fatalities, including 20 children, and 103 injuries. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 30 deaths and 39 injuries, while Sindh accounted for 17 deaths and 34 injuries during the same period.
In addition to human casualties, the heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread damage to infrastructure. A total of 397 houses have been damaged nationwide—132 completely destroyed and 265 partially damaged. In Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district alone, 26 homes were reported damaged.
The agriculture sector has also taken a hit, with 111 livestock deaths reported, mostly from Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab.
Authorities have issued fresh warnings for further rainfall and urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain alert. The NDMA confirmed it is working in close coordination with provincial disaster management bodies to support ongoing relief efforts.
