The mountaineering community mourns the loss of Guan Jing, a passionate and experienced climber who will be remembered for her achievements and dedication to the sport.

The body of Chinese mountaineer Guan Jing has been recovered from K2, the world's second-highest mountain, after a challenging operation by Army Aviation and a team of mountaineers. Guan Jing, 37, tragically lost her life on August 12, 2025, due to a fatal head injury caused by falling rocks while descending from the summit. According to details, Guan Jing had successfully summited K2 with her group on August 11, 2025. Her body was later found between 100 and 150 meters above the Advanced Base Camp, at an altitude of around 5,400 meters. The recovery operation was complicated by poor weather conditions, which initially grounded helicopter operations. A team of mountaineers attempted to recover the body on foot before the Army Aviation helicopter was able to transport it from Concordia to Skardu. Karrar Haidri, Senior Vice President of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, confirmed the recovery and expressed his deepest condolences to Guan Jing's family, friends, and the international mountaineering community. "Her loss is deeply tragic, and we stand in solidarity with her loved ones during this difficult time," Haidri said. K2, standing at 8,611 meters, is known for its technical challenges and high fatality rate, making it one of the most treacherous mountains in the world. Guan Jing's successful summit followed by her tragic descent serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in high-altitude mountaineering. The mountaineering community mourns the loss of Guan Jing, a passionate and experienced climber who will be remembered for her achievements and dedication to the sport.
