Extraordinary flood situation in Punjab, largest landslide in Kasur

Lahore: Due to the release of water from India, there is an unusual flood situation in the major rivers of Punjab, due to which thousands of people have been forced to migrate.

The flood in the Sutlej River is continuing at the Ganda Singh Wala location, due to which announcements have been made to evacuate the villages adjacent to the Talwar Post.

According to the Flood Forecasting Division Lahore, the water flow at the Ganda Singh Wala location is continuing to decrease, where the flow has reduced from 390,000 cusecs to 303,828 cusecs. However, there are still flood risks at Head Sulemanki and Head Islam.

Meanwhile, the water level is continuously increasing at Head Baloki in the Ravi River, and the flow has reached 192,545 cusecs. Water is also increasing at Head Sudhanai, while a decrease in flow has been recorded at Shahdara Lahore and Jasar. Water inflow at Head Panjnad in the Chenab River is also increasing.

Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, Irfan Ali Kathia, said that due to the dam break in India, water has moved towards Kasur. The highest water level in history has occurred in Kasur in the Sutlej River since 1955. The challenge is to save Kasur city.

He stated that Lahore is now completely safe, while the next 24 to 48 hours will be tough for the districts downstream of Lahore, including Okara, Sahiwal, and Toba Tek Singh, due to the flooding in the Ravi River.

According to the PDMA, 28 people have died in the province due to floods so far. However, due to timely rescue operations, it has been possible to prevent further loss of life.
