France proposes social media ban for children under 15
The commission has also suggested launching a public awareness campaign about the harms of social media

Paris: A proposal has emerged in France to completely ban social media use for children under the age of 15.
According to foreign media, a French parliamentary commission released its report after a six-month investigation into the psychological effects of TikTok and other social media platforms on children and adolescents.
The report recommends banning children under 15 from using social media and enforcing a digital curfew for those aged 15 to 18, restricting access from 10 PM to 8 AM.
The commission has also suggested launching a public awareness campaign about the harms of social media, making age verification mandatory when creating accounts, and strengthening parental supervision.
These measures come at a time when, in 2024, seven families in France filed a lawsuit against TikTok, claiming that their children were exposed to content that drove them to commit suicide.
In its response, TikTok stated that it had removed 98% of inappropriate content in France last year using artificial intelligence (AI).
