Flood threat rises in Sindh as water flow increases at Sukkur and Kotri Barrages

(Web Desk): Following Punjab, rising water levels in Sindh’s rivers have led to a high flood situation at Sukkur Barrage and a low-level flood at Kotri Barrage, according to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC).

At Sukkur Barrage, water flow has reached 571,000 cusecs, indicating a high flood level, while Kotri Barrage is witnessing a moderate flow, with a potential risk of flooding. Guddu Barrage is also experiencing a moderate water flow of 500,000 cusecs.

Due to ongoing rainfall in upper regions, an overall increase in river flows is expected across the country. There is also a significant risk of rising levels in hill torrents and mountainous streams.

Over the next two days, thunderstorms with rain are expected in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Lahore divisions, with intermittent rainfall likely in Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Zhob divisions.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and related agencies are closely monitoring the situation and ensuring timely response measures. Citizens are advised to avoid crossing fast-flowing streams, submerged roads, and damaged bridges.

Residents of flood-prone areas are urged to stay informed via TV and mobile alerts for official announcements and warnings.

The NDMA has instructed all relevant departments to ensure proactive measures are in place to tackle any possible emergency.

The public is also encouraged to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App for updates and safety guidance regarding weather and potential risks.
