Talking to senior journalists in Lahore, Azam Swati said that not everyone in the railways is a thief however, the petty mafia has spoiled the situation.

He said that not a single employee would be fired from the railways and the only solution to run the railways was to outsource it.

The Federal Minister further said that 30% of theft is taking place in the railways, Rs2.5 billion of electricity is stolen in a year while the monthly income from dry port is Rs7,200,000.

He said that technology was very much needed to make the railways profitable and the revenue from freight trains has to be increased to Rs30 billion.

Minister Swati also said that the railways is under so much pressure that ‘my wife says you are arguing even in your dreams.’

He said that it has been decided to do geofencing from Google while the work on ML-1 will be started within 2 months.

The Railway Minister said that he was grateful to the court for relinquishing the land of Circular Railway.

‘We are weak and Mafia is strong,’ and in seven months, 50 officers were suspended.

 

He said that many generations would pay for the Orange Train built by former Punjab Chief Minister and current National Assembly opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif.
