25% Decline in foreign investment in Pakistan:State bank report

Karachi: A significant decrease has been recorded in foreign investment in Pakistan, as direct foreign investment (FDI) during the first five months of the current financial year has decreased by 25% compared to the previous financial year. This has further highlighted the challenges facing the national economy.

According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Pakistan received direct foreign investment (FDI) amounting to $927.4 million in the first five months of the current financial year, which is $315 million less than the same period last year.

The report indicates that in the first five months of the previous financial year, direct foreign investment worth $1.24 billion was recorded. In November 2025, the value of FDI dropped by 16%, reaching $180 million, while in October, it stood at $179.8 million.

According to the released data, the highest foreign investment in November came from China, amounting to $81.6 million.

Similarly, last month, the power sector saw an investment of $86.1 million, while the financial business sector attracted $67.7 million in foreign investment.

The State Bank's data also reveals that the total foreign investment during the first five months of the current financial year amounted to $313.7 million, whereas during the same period last year, it was $1.39 billion.
