Govt to harness true potential of AI for development: IT minister
Addressing a ceremony related to Indus AI Week 2026 in Islamabad, she emphasized that the National AI Policy approved in 2025 is designed to transform Pakistan from a consumer to a leading producer of emerging technologies

Islamabad: Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has reiterated the government's resolve to harness the true potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for national development.
Addressing a ceremony related to Indus AI Week 2026 in Islamabad, she emphasized that the National AI Policy approved in 2025 is designed to transform Pakistan from a consumer to a leading producer of emerging technologies.
She said the government has already started an AI Enablement Fund to further promote the AI sector. She said the government is fully focused on establishing AI innovation Eco-system and infrastructure as well as spreading awareness.
Highlighting the public-private collaboration, she said the government will enable private sector to ensure it is able to accomplish several initiatives. She highlighted several projects to promote AI in the country which include training of one million resources, three thousand AI scholarships per annum and fifty AI civic projects.
She said that the government is committed to introduce 5G services in the major cities of the country in coming months.
