5-year-old drowns as torrential rains wreak havoc in Rawalpindi
Rawalpindi: A five-year-old girl drowned on Sunday after intermittent torrential rains in Islamabad and Rawalpindi flooded low-lying areas.
According to details, due to heavy rains in twin city, water also entered the District Headquarters Hospital and also inundated the houses of the people.
The patients are facing difficulties after rain water entered the wards.
Following the torrential rains, water level in Nullah Lai has also risen— almost 6 feet and at Gawalmandi it is 4 feet.
He said that WASA teams are present in different areas for drainage while staff is also present to deal with emergencies in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar directed the concerned authorities to use all resources for immediate drainage.
In a statement, he said that all available resources will be utilized for drainage of rainwater and any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated. He directed the district administration, Provincial Disaster Management Authority and Rescue 1122 to make all necessary arrangements to cope with any situation as a result of torrential rains. He said officers should personally visit the field to monitor the efforts for drainage of rainwater instead of sitting in their offices.
The Managing Director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) said that their teams are present in different areas of the city to help with drainage and also to deal with emergencies in effected areas.

It is also pertinent to mention that Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also received heavy rains and water level in low-lying areas in several parts of Upper Punjab too has submerged under rainwater.
