Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has on Tuesday, challenged former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani's nomination papers in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

PTI leader Fareed Ur Rehman has filed an application in the ECP, challenging Gillani's nomination papers for not disclosing facts. The application states that Gillani did not disclose that he was convicted in a Contempt of Court case, thus not filling the requirements of Article 62. The applicant requested that the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader's nomination papers be rejected.
Yousuf Raza Gillani, a joint candidate of the opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), filed his papers for the federal senate seat two days ago where he said that he does not believe in horse trading. "I was a joint nominee for Prime Minister. We don't contest elections on the basis of money, we contest it on the basis of our goodwill and relations with people," he remarked on the occasion.
The PDM nominee will be up against Hafeez Sheikh who has been given a senate ticket by the ruling PTI.
Elections will be held on March 3 for the upper house.
