Jerusalem: Jerusalem residents woke up to a blanket of snow on Thursday morning after a period of six years, as a rare Mideast storm brought snow to the holy city and parts of the countryās north.
The snowfall in the capital began on Wednesday afternoon and reached seven to 10 centimeters overnight and about sixty centimeters of snow accumulated at the base of the Hermon Mountain.
According to the Jerusalem municipality, the city saw up to 6 inches of snow in some areas.
The snow is expected to fall throughout the day in Jerusalem and the mountains of northern Israel.
In North Israel, residents saw as much as 1.3 feet of snow and the areas that did not receive snow got heavy rain and cold winds.
Israel’s central region gets snow every few years. Last time Israel saw major snowfall in 2013 when a winter storm brought one foot of snow to Jerusalem and knocked out power in several neighborhoods.
