Two fire incidents in Karachi burn huts, oil tanker
Both sides of the road have been blocked for the firefighting operation
Karachi: Two separate incidents of fire on Saturday have been reported in Karachi in one day.
According to details, dozens of huts have caught fire near Teen Hatti Bridge in Liaquatabad. Three fire tenders reached the area and managed to extinguish the blaze after a struggle of about an hour and a half, but the cooling process is still underway.
Chief Fire Officer Mubeen Ahmed said that it was estimated that there were about 100 huts which were completely burnt down but the cause of the fire has not been ascertained yet.
Fire Officer said that there were no casualties in the blaze.
Meanwhile, blaze broke out in petrol tanker in Saddar’s parking plaza. The fire in the tanker had spread to the road, leading from Empress Market to Parking Plaza and Mazar-e-Quaid, forced closure for traffic. The fire was brought under control with the help of 11 fire tenders.
Fire brigade officials said that snorkels were also used to douse the fire. The fire was extinguished with the help of water, foam and various chemicals. Cooling process is now underway.
Officials said that sparking occurred during the transfer of petrol from an oil tanker to an underground tank at a petrol pump.
The initial strategy was to prevent the fire from spreading to the underground tank of the petrol pump. No one was injured while extinguishing the fire.
Both sides of the road have been blocked for the operation.
