ODI series between Pakistan, West Indies postponed

Lahore: The ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies has been postponed to and rescheduled for early June 2022.

This decision was taken after several West Indies players tested positive for COVID-19 during the ongoing three-match Twenty20 tournament.

In a joint statement, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) said the decision was made after considering both the teams’ welfare as well as limited resources in the West Indies side for the ODIs.

The ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies have officially been postponed following multiple coronavirus cases in the visiting team’s camp.

The three-match series, which was part of the ICC Men’s Cricket Word Cup Super League, was scheduled to start from December 18 at the National Stadium Karachi.

Earlier, five more West Indian players and support staff were quarantined after they tested positive for COVID-19.

According to details, just hours ahead of the third and final T20I match between Pakistan and West Indies that is set to take place at Karachi's National Stadium today, three players and 2 among support staff tested positive for coronavirus.

The official statement issued by Cricket West Indies confirmed on Thursday morning.

The statement said that "Three players: wicketkeeper/batsman Shai Hope, left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein, all-rounder Justin Greaves; along with Assistant Coach Roddy Estwick, and Team Physician Dr Akshai Mansingh returned positive results in the latest round of testing carried out by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)".

Therefore, all three players will miss the upcoming matches and all five individuals will remain isolated from the rest of the West Indies squad and are now under the care and supervision provided by the medical officials, the WI Cricket statement read.

They will remain quarantined for 10 days or until they return negative PCR test results.

On the other hand, officials from Cricket West Indies and the Pakistan Cricket Board will meet today to determine whether the current tour can continue.

Pakistan have taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series, winning the first and second T20Is by 63 runs and nine runs respectively. Chase, Mayers and Cottrell were in isolation before the first match of the tour.
