First Omicron case confirmed in Islamabad 

Islamabad: First case of Omicron variant of coronavirus has been confirmed in Islamabad on Saturday. 

According to the reports, contact tracing is underway in the federal capital after surfacing the first case of Omicron came to light. Omicron has been confirmed as a citizen of Islamabad and the patient has no travel history abroad.

According to the sources, Omicron’s patient has only travel history of Karachi. It is also said that the patient's condition is out of danger.

This was confirmed by Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat on his Twitter handle. District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia informed that the Omicron variant was diagnosed in an Islamabad resident. He said that the citizen did not have a history to travel abroad. The health teams are ready to deal with the Omicron variant, added Dr Zia.

The DHO also urged the citizens to take every possible precaution and receive a booster shot if eligible.

The first case of Omicron in Pakistan was confirmed on December 13 in Karachi where a woman was infected with the virus who recovered after being treated in a private hospital.
