Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured on Pakistani soil after Pakistan Air Force (PAF) shot down two Indian jets on February 27, 2019 has wished for peace between India and Pakistan in his never before seen video.

In his video, which according to local media has been released by Pakistan Army, Abhinandan Varthaman said that conflict emerges only when there is no peace.
“I don’t know what we can do to bring peace between two countries, but the only thing I know is that there should be peace. There is no reason for us to continue with any kind of hostilities. I want peace between the two countries,” he said.
Referring to the day when his jet was shot down by PAF, he said that while landing through parachute, he saw both countries up from the air.
“I couldn’t differentiate between the two countries from above. Both countries are equally beautiful. I didn't know if I was in Pakistan or in my homeland India when I fell on the ground as the two countries were same and even all the people seemed similar to me,” he said.
The Indian pilot said that he suffered serious injuries and tried to find out where he had landed.
“I was seriously injured again and I couldn’t move. I tried to find out which country I was in. When I realized that I was not in my country, I tried to flee. Several people rushed after me with enthusiasm and tried to capture me. At the same time two young officers of Pakistan Army came and rescued me. One of them was the captain of Pakistan Army. They took me to their unit where I was given first aid, and then I was taken to the hospital where I was examined. And I am here now... and with great care,” he said.
Speaking over the Kashmir issues he said that no one is aware of what is happening in Kashmir and added that we have to think patiently about the situation of Kashmir.
Praising Pakistan Army, Abhinandan said that he found Pakistan Army very fine, professional and chivalrous force. “I am very impressed by the bravery which is being displaced by Pakistan Army."
On February 27, 2019, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) carried out Operation Swift Retort and shot down two Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter aircraft and dropped bombs within the compounds of Indian military facilities in occupied Kashmir – as a warning to the country’s belligerent neighbor.
The Pakistani military had lived up to its promise to ‘surprise’ India in wake of any misadventure, saying that ‘uncalled-for aggression’ from the Indian military ‘would not go unpunished’.
The operation also resulted in the capture of an Indian pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, after his Mig-21 was shot down. The pilot was later handed over to Indian authorities as ‘a goodwill gesture’.
