Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar on Tuesday claimed that former premier Nawaz Sharif was the main character in the foreign conspiracy against Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and threatening letter.

The prime minister said while addressing a press conference along with Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry. He also said only a select few people in the civil-military leadership have seen the letter due to its sensitivity. “Prime Minister Imran Khan is ready to share the "threat letter" with Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial,” he maintained.

“There is no doubt that Nawaz Sharif is a main character of the conspiracy as he meets with the foreign intelligence agencies officials, while senior leadership of the Pakistan Democratic Movement is also aware of the matter,” the federal minister said.

He said PM Imran Khan had received a threatening letter which he was ready to show to the chief justice of Pakistan. “The letter clearly mentioned of the no-confidence motion. The writer of the letter wrote that if the no-trust motion failed against Imran Khan then it could have disastrous consequences,” the planning minister added.

“Content of the letter is directly linked with the foreign policy of Pakistan. Foreign hands and no-confidence motion are interlinked,” he said adding that the letter had only been shared with the top military brass.

Asad Umar refrained from sharing content of the letter as well as from where it was received or who sent it. Because of the Official Secret Act, content of the letter could not be shared, he said. He hoped that the members of National Assembly would think about why they were being a part of the entire game.

Fawad Chaudhry said a meeting chaired by the PM had discussed to share the letter with the chief justice as well for his being an elder of the country and not as a judge. “The advantage of Imran Khan to Pakistan is that he brings everything in front of the masses. He does not strike deals behind closed doors,” he said.

He said the letter was received prior to the opposition’s filing no-confidence motion, however it described the motion against the PM highly clearly.

“Nawaz Sharif held meetings with Israeli ambassadors and others. I was saying at that time also that let Nawaz Sharif not leave the country as such people become stooges of international establishment,” he said.

The information minister said it was not the first time in Pakistan that such conspiracy was being hatched. Earlier, Liaquat Ali Khan, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Ziaul Haq had also become victims to such conspiracies, he added.
