Dense fog blankets Punjab, flights delayed

Lahore: Due to heavy fog and reduced visibility across Punjab today, a warning alert had been issued at Allama International Iqbal Airport Lahore, while major highways including motorways had been closed.

Lahore Airport was under dense fog, as the visibility limit is less than 1500 meters, a warning alert has been issued.

According to the airport authorities, the schedule of several domestic and international flights had been affected due to the fog.

“Due to poor visibility, Airsail PF 146 was diverted back to Karachi, while Serene ER 822 was diverted back to Islamabad,” officials stated.

On the other hand, the Motorways Police officials stated that Motorway M1 from Peshawar Toll Plaza to Rashkai Interchange, Motorway M2 North from Islamabad Toll Plaza to Kot Momin and Motorway M2 South from Thokar Niaz Baig to Kot Momin had been closed due to heavy fog.

“Motorway M3 had been closed from Faizpur to Darkhana, M4 from Sher Shah to Abdul Hakeem and M5 from Sher Shah till Zahir Peer, Motorway M11 had also been closed from Lahore to Sambaryal,” authorities added.

The temperature of Lahore was recorded minimum six degrees Celcius, and 19 degrees Celcius maximum.

Besides fog, smog had also covered the city and the Air Quality Index (AQI) is recorded as high as 180.

According to Met office, there is no rain expected in the coming days, however, the smog and fog situation will remain the same.
