Islamabad: The Islamabad District and Sessions Court has granted one-day physical remand of PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cipher misplacement case on Sunday.
The investigating officer must re-present the Qureshi tomorrow, per a court order.
According to the Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) legal representative, Qureshi was the subject of a FIR filed under the recently passed Official Secrets Act.
The judge issued an order for everyone to leave the courtroom, with the exception of the involved lawyers, at the request of the attorney.
The magistrate then held an in-camera hearing of the case.
The FIA had sought 14-day physical remand of Qureshi, and the court had reserved its decision.
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi was arrested from his Islamabad residence.
However, it is not yet clear that in which case, he was arrested. The sources said that the PTI vice-chairman was shown the arrest warrants before his arrest.
He is likely to be produced before the relevant judicial magistrate within the next 24 hours.
Qureshi was arrested few minutes after he addressed a press conference in Islamabad. Shoaib Shaheen, the PTI lawyer, also accompanied him.
In his press conference, Qureshi Saturday strongly condemned actions against party leader Usman Dar and his family.
Qureshi said that it was highly condemnable that the children and the family members were ousted in the middle of the night. He stated that the factory and property of Usman Dar were sealed.
