Sarwat Gillani hints at possibility of establishing her own political party
The actress says that many political parties have approached her for raising voice for the marginalized segments of the society.
Lahore: Renowned Pakistani actress Sarwat Gilani hinted at the possibility of establishing her own political party in the future.
Sarwat Gilani, known for her impactful roles and social advocacy, revealed that she has received offers from various existing political parties due to her consistent efforts in raising her voice for marginalized communities.
She made this statement during an interview to a local private TV on Monday.
“I have always been an advocate for the rights of the downtrodden,” she stated during the interview. “Given the circumstances, it's not out of the question that I might consider forming my own political party in the times to come,”.
The actress highlighted that one of the key pillars of her potential political platform would be the provision of free education for all, reflecting her commitment to addressing critical social issues through political engagement.
Turning her attention to the current state of Pakistani television dramas, Sarwat Gilani expressed her concerns about the themes and narratives being presented. She observed that a prevalent focus across multiple dramas, spanning 26 episodes, revolves primarily around the question of who the female protagonist will ultimately marry.
Gilani criticized this narrow perspective, emphasizing that contemporary audiences are seeking more diverse and representative narratives that highlight the accomplishments and struggles of individuals beyond the realm of romantic relationships.
Having dedicated over two decades to the entertainment industry, Sarwat Gilani candidly shared that she is currently opting to steer clear of drama projects. She attributed this decision to her personal beliefs, stating, “I cannot take on roles that portray oppressed women because my own convictions align strongly with the principles of women's rights and education.”
