Court calls arguments on 1090 petitions against electricty prices
Later, the court adjourned further hearing of the case till October 16.
Islamabad: The Supreme Court Monday adjourned the hearing of 1,090 petitions against the fuel price adjustment in electricity bills till October 16.
According to details, a three-member bench chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa heard the case in which the Attorney General sought respite from the court, which the Chief Justice rejected and warned the Attorney General to prepare in half an hour.
Meanwhile, the Additional Attorney General Amir Rehman said that there is no notice to the Attorney General in this case. He wants to give his arguments, therefore court should give some time.
The Chief Justice replied: “If you yourself write and say that Amir Rehman is incompetent and cannot give arguments, then it is fine. We cannot have the audacity to call Amir Rehman incompetent. I think Amir Rehman is a competent lawyer and can argue the case himself. So many lawyers are present, will hear the case after break at 11:30am”.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa added that there is a pile of cases on electricity prices, he will decide on October 16 after hearing the arguments and video link facility will not be provided on that day, all the parties should come to Islamabad and give arguments.
Later, the court adjourned further hearing of the case till October 16.
It should be noted that Lahore High Court declared the fuel price adjustment in electricity bills illegal in February this year and the electricity transmission companies approached the Supreme Court against the decision.
