Agricultural, food product exports surge by over 27%
Zubair Motiwala predicts that during this fiscal year, the export of agricultural and food products will surpass the $7 billion mark.
Karachi: Pakistan is witnessing a remarkable upswing in the export of agricultural and food products, with a significant increase of over 27 percent.
According to the latest figures released by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), during the initial quarter of the current fiscal year, exports of corn, rice, meat, vegetables, and fish surpassed a value of $1.02 billion.
The report further revealed that between July of the previous year and September 2022, food items valued at $874 million found their way to international markets.
The notable growth in exports comes as a positive sign for Pakistan's economy and reflects the resilience and productivity of its agricultural sector.
This surge in exports can be attributed to increased production of agricultural commodities following recent floods.
Pakistan has found new markets in countries such as China, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Korea, and Oman, which are showing an increasing appetite for Pakistani agricultural and food products.
Zubair Motiwala, the Chief Executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (T-Dep), anticipates that the upward trend will continue throughout the fiscal year, with agricultural and food product exports expected to surpass $7 billion.
