Green Line BRT: First fleet of electric buses reach Karachi port
Four buses from the batch will be displayed for the special ceremony while second shipment of 40 more buses expected to reach metropolitan city by the end of October
Karachi: Chinese vessel carrying a cargo with first lot of 40 buses has reached at Karachi port on Sunday (September 19).
As per details, four buses from the batch will be displayed for the special ceremony while second shipment of 40 more buses expected to reach metropolitan city by the end of October.
Governor Sindh Imran Ismail on his official twitter handle wrote, “Vessel carrying first lot of 42 Green line buses will dock KPT in a few minutes. Inshallah will unveil the state of art buses today at 3:30”.
He further added, “Red carpet for the arrival of buses has been laid and I am excited to revive. Thank u Prime Minister”.
As per reports quoting sources, green line buses have four doors, charging ports and special convenience for the disabled people and women.
Earlier, the Head of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) Asad Umar stated that the Green Line bus service will become operational in Karachi in November 2021.
Green Line BRT project
Karachi’s Green Line BRT project with intersections is 24 km long, occupying 25 stations—including 12.7 km elevated, 10.9 km at grade and 422 meters underground.
It is pertinent to mention here that the construction work on Phase-I was inaugurated by former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif in 2016.
