'Time has come': Dwayne Bravo confirms retirement from int’l cricket
Dwayne Bravo has confirmed that he will retire from international cricket after the conclusion of West Indies' T20 World Cup campaign.
West Indies superstar Dwayne Bravo has confirmed his retirement from international cricket as his team crashed out of the tournament after losing to Sri Lanka on Thursday.
Bravo has played all the T20 World Cups since 2007 and has helped his side win the title in 2012 and 2016 and has played 90 T20Is.
The 38-year-old, came out of retirement in 2019 to aid West Indies' defence of the T20 title they won five years ago.
The all-rounder has appeared at all seven T20 World Cups and helped West Indies to lift the trophy in 2012 and 2016.
Moreover, he has 90 T20I caps for his country as well as more than 500 appearances in the format overall.
During an interview, Bravo said "I think the time has come".
He further added, "I've had a very good career. To represent the West Indies for 18 years, had some ups and downs, but as I look back at it I'm very grateful to represent the region and the Caribbean people for so long”.
"To win three ICC trophies, two with my captain [Daren Sammy] on the left here. One thing I am proud about is that the era of cricketers we had we were able to make a name for ourselves on the global stage and not only do that but have silverware to show for it".
"It wasn't the World Cup we expected, it wasn't the World Cup we wanted as players. We shouldn't feel sorry for ourselves, it was a tough competition, we should keep our heads high," said Bravo, adding that, "For me now I want to try and pass on whatever experience and information I have with the younger players”.
In the ongoing T20 World Cup, West Indies have lost three and cannot qualify for the semi-finals - although captain, Kieron Pollard, said he had no plans to retire after defeat to Sri Lanka ended their campaign.
The veteran star will play his last international game against Australia on Saturday (November 6) in Abu Dhabi and it will be his 294th match for the side.
