The resolution was presented jointly by GB Chief Minister, Khalid Khurshid Khan, GB minister Raja Azam Khan, opposition leader Amjad Hussain advocate from the PPP, Pakistan Muslim Leauge Nawaz's (PML-N) Ghulam Muhammad, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan (MWM) member Muhammad Kazim and Jamiat Ulema-e Islam’s (JUI-F) Rehmat Khaliq.

GB Chief Minister, Khalid Khurshid Khan turned to twitter and wrote, “Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly unanimously passed a historic resolution demanding provision of constitutional rights to the region”.

He further added, “I myself presented the resolution in the assembly. I am thankful to the opposition leader for their support”.

While expressing his gratitude to the opposition and government he said, "The demand for constitutional rights is a unanimous demand of the people of GB, not that of an individual/ party”.

“The unity we've shown on this issue needs to be repeated again at a federal level," he concluded.

The resolution was passed by the house unanimously and stated that a bill to amend the Constitution to declare GB a provisional province of Pakistan should be passed by Parliament without causing any damage to the Pakistan’s stance regarding Kashmir issue.

Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, termed the development a "historic day", congratulated GB representatives on unanimously passing the resolution.

In November 2020, Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ali Amin Gandapur announced that the federal government had decided to elevate the status of GB to a province, following which Prime Minister Imran Khan constituted a 12-member committee to make recommendations in this regard in December.
