According to details, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) had filed a fresh petition before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against the victory of senator-elect.

ECP, while issuing notices to former premier and his son Ali Haider Gillani, adjourned the hearing until March 22 when it would hear the leaked video case.

The amended petition was moved by PTI’s MNAs Farrukh Habib, Malika Bukhari, and Kanwal Shauzab.

Yesterday, the Election Commission of Pakistan rejected the petition seeking a stay on the victory notification of Gillani in senate polls.

During proceedings, PTI’s lawyer Ali Zafar claimed that opposition carried out rigging in senate elections through money and party tickets and evidence of that rigging was found a day before the polls.

In response to that, the member of ECP asked Barrister Ali Zafar about making those who were offered money as party in the case over to which he replied in negative but told ECP member that the court can call them as witnesses.

“The one who takes a bribe and the one who gives it, both are accused,” Punjab member said.

The top electoral body directed to include all those who took money and those who as a respondents in the petition.

The ruling party had challenged Gillani’s victory on the basis of a leaked video of his son Ali Haider Gillani in which he was seen advising legislators on how to waste his vote in the Senate polls.

The development came just a day before Yousaf Raza Gillani was elected as a senator defeating PTI’s Hafeez Sheikh by five votes.

The victory of opposition came as major blow for PTI, after which Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to take a vote of confidence from Parliament.
