Pakistan vaccination drive for senior citizens continues with transparency

Islamabad: The government started giving the vaccine to people over 60 and continue to inoculate senior citizens without VIP culture, following transparency and merit.

As per details, Former Punjab Governor General Khalid Maqbool, retired government officer Naveed Akram Cheema, senior political leader of Pakistan Tehreek-eInsaf (PTI) Jahangir Tareen and other personalities came to the government center and got vaccinated.

The secretary of the provincial primary and secondary healthcare department (Retd) Muhammad Usman's said, “The system is automated and convenient, and anyone can be easily vaccinated without any assistance”.

Muhammad Usman's mother and in-laws also came to the center to get themselves inoculated and requested people over 60 to register for the vaccine by sending their CNIC number to 1166.

“A total of 96,592 health workers have received the vaccine to date,” added health secretary.

The government launched the Covid vaccine drive in February, vaccinating the healthcare workers in the first phase after receiving 500,000 Sinopharm doses from China.

Earlier in March, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) approved the use of the Chinese COVID-19 vaccine Sinopharm for people over 60 years of age.

Moreover, four vaccines, Cansino Bio (China), Sputnik-V (Russia), Sinophram (China) and Oxford-AstraZeneca (UK) have been registered in the country so far.
