T20 World Cup 2022: Shaheen's deadly bowling injures Afghan player
"Comeback of Shaheen Shah Afridi is an alarming situation for all the opening batters in the T20 World Cup"
Brisbane: Pakistani pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi’s lethal Yorker injures Afghanistan's opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
After getting treated in England for a muscular injury in the right knee, the player joined Team Green in Australia to play in the mega event.
While playing against Afghanishtan’s opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Shaheen bowled a toe-crushing Yorker in a warm-up match.
The shot left Gurbaz unable to walk and his teammate had to support him to get back to the dugout due to immense pain on the left foot. It happened on the fifth ball of first over.
Pakistan fans got super excited seeing Shaheen playing in full swing and are in all praises for a strong comeback after injury. As per his performance, it did not seem that he was away from the game for past three months. He allowed only four runs with two wickets in his first spell of two overs. Later, he finished with a score of 2 for 29 in his four overs.
During the match, a commentator mentioned that ‘the comeback of Shaheen Shah Afridi is an alarming situation for all the opening batters in the T20 World Cup.’
Physiotherapists were immediately called for the check-up and replaced him by a substitute player. The injured player was taken to the hospital for scans right away.
This deadly spell of Pakistani pacer has cleared all the doubts regarding his fitness. Not only was Rahmanullah his victim in the warm-up fixture, but he also claimed the wicket of Zazai, creating trouble for Afghanistan early on in the innings.
Initially, the match was delayed and then stopped due to rain. It is also reported that Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi visited the Afghan player later to inquire about his health. Pakistani fielders also gathered on the field to check the injured player.
