Justice Shams Mahmood told the petitioner's lawyer to prove contempt of court with documents.
Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday took notice of Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and sought his reply in the case of ban on broadcasting speeches of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, GNN reported.
The case was heard on the contempt petition against PEMRA for not airing Imran Khan's statements on TV channels, in which Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza told the petitioner's lawyer that you have to prove with documents that the court order has been violated.
Chairman PEMRA has been made a party in the contempt of court petition filed by Barrister Ahmed Pansuta on behalf of PTI chief.
It was argued in the petition that LHC has suspended the notification of PEMRA's ban, yet non-broadcasting of Khan’s speeches is a violation of fundamental rights.
The petition stated: “Violating the court order, PEMRA is pressurizing the TV channels to not on-air Imran Khan's speeches”.
The court has been requested to summon the Chairman PEMRA in a personal capacity and the court should initiate contempt of court proceedings against the Chairman PEMRA. The court issued a notice against him and sought reply.
