New York: European Union and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) have expressed their strong condemnation of the recent desecration of the Holy Quran in Stockholm, Sweden, labeling it as "offensive" and "disrespectful."

Salwan Momika, an Iraqi citizen residing in Sweden, publicly stomped on the sacred book and set pages on fire in front of Stockholm's largest mosque during the first day of Eid-ul-Adha.

Despite being carried out under the protection of authorities, the act has sparked outrage globally.

While Swedish authorities initially granted a permit based on free speech protections, an investigation for "agitation" has since been opened.

The Swedish government swiftly condemned the "Islamophobia act" and emphasized that it does not reflect their stance.

In response to the incident, EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Nabila Massrali, echoed the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejection of the Quran burning.

Massrali emphasized that such actions are offensive, disrespectful, and provocative, emphasizing that racism, xenophobia, and intolerance have no place in Europe.

The act's occurrence during the significant Muslim celebration of Eid-ul-Adha makes it even more deplorable.

EU remains committed to upholding freedom of religion, belief, and expression, both within Europe and abroad.

Massrali called for unity, mutual understanding, respect, and the prevention of any further escalation in the aftermath of widespread protests in Iraq.
