PDMA issued high alert to all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Punjab and directed them to make immediate efforts.


Lahore: Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a high alert for possible floods in rivers of Punjab.
According to PDMA spokesperson, between July 8 and 10, there is a possibility of very high level of flooding in Jhelum, Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab rivers.
The spokesman told that India is likely to release water into the Ravi and Sutlej rivers that would increase the risk of flooding.
PDMA issued high alert to all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Punjab and concerned provincial departments and directed them to make immediate arrangements.
It should be noted that the meteorological department has also predicted the possibility of wind and heavy rains in most parts of the country.
According to Meteorological Department, there is a risk of flooding in the hilly areas of Dera Ghazi (DG) Khan, Kohlu, Sibi, Barkhan, Zhob, Loralai, Qila Saifullah, Moosakhel and adjoining rivers till Saturday due to heavy rains.
On the other hand, heavy rains in Lahore broke the record of 30 years as 291 mm of rain was recorded in 10 hours.
Due to the rain, low-lying areas, streets and markets were submerged. Water entered the basements of houses and plazas in many areas, while seven people died and many were injured in various incidents.
