Party’s Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman announces to write to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding delay in the notification of the census 2023 results

Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Saturday expressed its dissatisfaction with the incumbent government's decision to conduct elections based on the Census 2017 data.
The party's Karachi chief, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, announced that they would write to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the delay.
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman demanded that the government conduct general elections after promptly notifying the results of Census 2023 and carrying out a fresh delimitation of constituencies. He criticized the government for not completing the process for over two years, stating that Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had refused to notify the results of the newly-held census.
The delay in approving and notifying the new census results has raised concerns about the possible postponement of general elections for three to four months. The federal government is currently deliberating on approving the new census results in the Council of Common Interests (CCI) session, expected to be convened on July 25.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah asserted that the upcoming general elections, scheduled for 2023, would be based on the 2017 census data, as there is no consensus on the new digital census. He emphasized the need for consensus on the census results to avoid any controversial situations in the country.
