PM announces historic development package worth Rs. 370b for Gilgit Baltistan
Gilgit: Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced a historic development package worth 370 billion rupees for Gilgit-Baltistan.

While addressing the ceremony in connection with development package on Friday, PM said it is for the first time in the history of country that such a huge amount has been dedicated for the development of this strategically located region.
“The development package envisages hydel power generation and transmission projects, connectivity projects for tourism, youth skill and scholarship program, up-gradation of health system and water and sanitation projects,” he added.
Prime Minister further stated that his government will support the progress of small and medium enterprises in the area besides focusing on the growth of its infrastructure.
“We are trying our best to enable Gilgit airport to receive international flights,” he said.
Shedding light on the diverse tourism potential of Gilgit-Baltistan, Imran Khan said this development package will prepare the region to attract the tourists which will benefit not only the local people but the whole country.
While emphasizing on the need for promotion of tourism in a planned manner to cultivate its true benefits, PM said that the tourism in the region should not affect the forests and the mountains.
“The introduction of local government system in the region will help take forward the region,” he added.
Imran Khan reiterated his commitment to change the country by waging a successful struggle against the corrupt mafia.
“It is for the first time that this mafia is being brought under the ambit of law,” he added.
