Cypher case: Special Court of Official Secrets Act grants bail to Asad Umar
Asad Umar filed an anti-arrest bail appeal in the Official Secret Act court in Islamabad.


Islamabad: The special court set up under the Official Secrets Act has granted interim bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Asad Umar in the cypher case.
According to details, former PTI general secretary Asad Umar approached the Official Secrets Act court for interim bail in the cypher case.
Asad Umar filed an anti-arrest bail appeal in the Official Secret Act court in Islamabad.
He maintained the position in the petition that the cypher case was filed against him on political grounds for the purpose of harassing and blackmailing him.
It was pleaded in the petition that the cypher case against Asad Umar is baseless, the provisions in the case are wrong. Asad Umar is ready to be investigated, therefore the bail application should be granted.
In the cypher case, the Official Secret Act Court granted bail to Asad Umar till August 29 against a surety bond of Rs1,00,000.
It is pertinent to note that Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi from his residence in Islamabad few days ago and on the same day the news of Asad Umar’s arrest also started circulating on media.
Earlier on Monday (yesterday), the court handed over PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood to FIA on physical remand in the cypher case.
